parkrun is a national, and increasingly international running phenomenon. Every Saturday morning tens of thousands of runners of all ages and abilities wipe the sleep from their eyes and take part in free, timed 5k runs, usually around a local park. Even more impressively hundreds (if not thousands) of volunteers get out of bed early to mark the courses, marshall the runners and collate the times at the end.

parkrun is a very inclusive event – if you want to batter round aiming to smash your personal best you absolutely can do. However if you’d rather just have a gentle jog and a natter with your mates you can do that too. Some people run with their kids, others with their dogs, some are pushing prams round, while others are just dreadfully hungover (none of the fine athletes of Chorlton fall into the last category of course).

Members of Chorlton Runners have sported the black and gold vest at parkruns all over the UK and beyond – with Denmark, Poland, Australia and New Zealand all on the list. However our “Home” parkruns are Stretford parkrun at Longford Park (starts and finishes in the athletics track and takes in two laps of the park) and South Manchester at Platt Fields Park (it’s a reasonably fast, flat course with a pleasant waterside start and finish – there are occasionally puddles and mud but that’s all part of the fun!)

So come along and say hello to us, before, after or during the run. Oh and we usually go for breakfast afterwards as well.

We look forward to seeing you there. Oh, and don’t forget your barcode!
